Left to right, Julian Rivers Kawasaki KT 250, Alasdair Keanne Beamish Suzuki RL250, Derek Evans Ossa Mick Andrews Replica 250 plus the writer Robert Cochrane Kawasaki KT 250. The other three riders were three of the eight that travelled up from Wellington for a great days riding. Of special interest to Suzuki fans is that Derek Evans worked for Beamish Motorcycles in England during the 1970′s and used to build the very machine Alasdair is sitting on, plus the yellow 325cc RL250 model Steve Gallichan has in his collection. The attendance was dominated by 10 members of Team Honda attendance wise but Fred Carter won the Expert Grade on his Fantic, Gerald Bull the A Grade on his Honda TLR200 with son-in-law Julian Rivers the B Grade on the Kawasaki KT250. The Bulls property at Bullocks Quarry beside the river is always an exciting challenge with so many different elements, the odd logs to step over, sand drifts that keep moving, along with pinecones, tree leaves and pine needles, knarly roots, or rock piles and plenty of trees to manouvre through. Section 9 was a ripper, more of a trail ride but was there to challenge concentration and memory. Another great day in Bulls with the next round of the Belray Autumn Twinshock Trials Series in Wanganui on Sunday April 29th, see you there.

I had originally set aside this full weekend to get my machines ready with a focus on front fork improvements. The Montesa needs the forks cleaned out thoroughly and new oil, and the KT New fork seals. The original fork legs were very worn and leaked and to hard chrome was $600 and to get some new ones made was$450 USD. Lloyd McKenzie came up with a simple fix for me that cost $15 from Joe Lett Motorcycles. The fork legs are 34mm so I bought some 33mm fork seals and the test ride is this afternoon. It was a sunny Sunday afternoon in Wanganui yesterday so I started the job at 2pm and plodded away trying to find my tools etc and took a break later in the day for a snack/cuppa. So I put the lower legs back on and then thought, this guard looks a bit odd and then realized as the photo shows, the legs are on in reverse order, so as the sun went down I corrected my mistake and changed sides. Its actually a lot of fun making a mistake when you have lots of time. More news on trials times will be posted this week. If you want to try the twinshock trials sport there are usually spare bikes available. Contact me on robertc@amcom.co.nz
